Meet Romance Author Jennifer Wilck
Welcome fellow Rose, Jennifer Wilck. So glad to have you here today.
Is writing something that comes easy to you or not?
In the past, writing always came easy for me. I’d sit down and write the stories that were in my head. I’ve always been a very structured person, so I’d stick to a daily writing goal, whether it was a word count or chapter goal. Since the pandemic, however, I’ve had a hard time focusing and getting inspired, so writing has been difficult. Luckily, I have manuscripts I wrote in the past that I’ve wanted to get ready for publication, so I can work on editing and polishing them. I’m hoping that as the pandemic eases and I can get out more, and as my life gets closer to normal, I’ll be able to get back my writing inspiration.
What are some of your favorite things?
I love flowers and photography, neither of which I’m particularly talented at, but I do enjoy them as hobbies. I’ve been planting lots of bulbs around our house—my husband doesn’t understand why bulb packages keep arriving—and pleading with the wildlife to eat the weeds, not the flowers. Occasionally, I’m successful. I love taking photos of the flowers (and the wildlife), and my camera disk and phone are filled with photos of both. In fact, we currently have a family of foxes that I can see and photograph out my window, and I’m constantly grabbing my camera to get a picture of them.
Where is your favorite place to write?
I like sitting at my dining table, looking out the French doors to our backyard, while I write. Since I use my laptop, I can move around my house, retreating to the sofa when I want a comfy seat or blanket, o moving onto the deck when it’s sunny out.
How much research do you do for each book you write?
It really depends on the book. For A Reckless Heart, I did a lot of research into therapy gardens, which help both my hero and real people with physical and emotional disabilities. It was so interesting learning about the benefits of working in the soil. Google is my friend, and like many other authors, I’m sometimes worried about what people will discover if they examine my search history.
Is there any particular author or book that influenced you in any way either growing up or as an adult?
One of my favorite authors is Lynn Kurland. She writes fantastic time-travel romances and no one shows emotion the way she does. The feelings just drip off the page. As a reader, I love being transported back to medieval England and Scotland, and as a writer, I am enthralled by how well she conveys longing and desire. I can only hope to write half as well as she does.
A Reckless Heart
by Jennifer Wilck
Meg Thurgood, former society girl, took the blame for her friend and paid a steep price. Now all she wants is solitude and a chance to rebuild her life. She thinks she’s found that in an isolated house she rents from a mysterious stranger.
Simon McAlter has hidden in his house on the coast of Maine since a fire left him scarred. A successful landscape architect who conducts his business and teaches his classes remotely, he’s lost his inspiration and is trying to pretend he’s not lonely.
Simon’s new neighbor is more than he bargained for. When he learns Meg’s secret, will he retreat into the shadows or will he learn to see past the surface and trust in Meg’s love?

Learn More about Jennifer Wilck
Jennifer started telling herself stories as a little girl when she couldn’t fall asleep at night. Pretty soon, her head was filled with these stories and the characters that populated them. Even as an adult, she thinks about the characters and stories at night before she falls asleep or walking the dog. Eventually, she started writing them down. Her favorite stories to write are those with smart, sassy, independent heroines; handsome, strong and slightly vulnerable heroes; and her stories always end with happily ever after.
In the real world, she’s the mother of two amazing daughters and wife of one of the smartest men she knows. When she’s not writing, she loves to laugh with her family and friends, is a pro at finding whatever her kids lost in plain sight, and spends way too much time closing doors that should never have been left open in the first place. She believes humor is the only way to get through the day and does not believe in sharing her chocolate.
She writes contemporary romance, some of which are mainstream and some of which involve Jewish characters. She’s published with The Wild Rose Press and all her books are available through Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Jennifer – great interview, and I loved this book. I have been remiss in not getting out a review. I’ll draft one up today and try to get it out soon. Such tortured characters, but they came together in such a lovely way. And of course, since I live in Maine, I loved the setting. I hear you about that paralysis over this last year. Every time I think I am sneaking out of it, it hits again. But this too shall pass – for all of us, I hope!.
Thanks for sharing, Jennifer. I’ll be sure to look up Lynn Kurland now.
Great interview! Wishing you continued success with the book, Jennifer!
Thanks so much, Judith!
A great interview. I got a wonderful insight into your interests and how they impact your writing.
Thanks, Susie. Zara offered a wide range of questions, and there were lots of choices!
Wonderful interview, ladies. Recently, a reader asked me if I suffered from the “COVID fog”, Jennifer. I burst out laughing and said it wasn’t fog but a freeze in my writing. I’m now calling it a year of illumination. Wishing you continued success with A RECKLESS HEART!
Thanks, Mary. That’s exactly what it is. Wishing you the same!
Thanks for hosting me today, Zara!
Thank you for the interview, Zara and Jennifer. I would really love to know the titles of the books with Jewish characters so I can read them! Can you share those, please?
Hi Christa,
My Jewish books are: Addicted to Love, Five Minutes to Love, Learning to Love (3 book series). Also Waiting For A Miracle (Hanukkah novella). My two indie Jewish ones are Whispers in Washington and my upcoming one, Better Together in Boston.
