Love Twists and Turns? Meet Author Karen Andover
Please welcome fellow Wild Rose, Karen Andover. She is sharing her writing life and her brand-new release Book 2 in the Victoria Island series.
Welcome, Karen,
Why did you become a writer?
It was sort of accidental. I’ve always been a voracious reader- of anything and everything! I started writing at the beginning of the pandemic. My friends were all showing off their intricate (and no doubt delicious) cake creations on Zoom. Since I’m a disaster in the kitchen, participation was more stressful than fun. I decided to leverage my love of books and give writing a try. I was instantly hooked! It’s addictive but with less calories!
Is there any particular author or book that influenced you in any way either growing up or as an adult?
Agatha Christie inspired me. I love all her stories and intricate plots. I would love to develop an iconic character such as Hercule Poirot. It’s incredible that some of her stories are still being made into movies today. I’m thrilled when a reader tells me that they didn’t foresee the plot twist or guess correctly which character was the villain.
What other genres of novel would you love to write?
I’m working on the first book in a science fiction/romance series at the moment. It’s set on Earth and involves invading aliens, hunky Alpha soldiers and strong heroines. I’m excited to be in the home stretch of writing this book and can’t wait for it to be published! Check my website https://karenandover.com/ for updates or sign up for my newsletter. I also love exploring many other genres. I’m thinking about writing a cozy mystery with a dash of romance. When that is finished, I’m sure I’ll go back to mystery and suspense. I think there are a lot of readers (like me) who enjoy suspenseful romance in different genres. So many stories! So little time!
Do you have any advice to give to aspiring writers?
Three words. Just keep going. Or just keep writing. I have to keep telling myself this. It would be so easy to give up, get discouraged, or sidetracked with other obligations. It’s a long process but the finished product is so worthwhile!
What has helped you get published?
I think joining a writer’s group and networking with other authors has been immensely helpful. I had no idea how to get from page one to published. I’d like to give a shout out to all the generous and talented writers in the First Coast Romance Writers! They are an amazing group of authors who run monthly educational and networking programs.
