Kimberley Ash has a New Romance
Romance Author Kimberley Ash is here today to introduce us to the second book in her new series as well as give us a hint of her writer life.
Welcome, Kimberley
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m a born and bred Brit who’s now lived in the US for longer than I lived in the UK. That’s such a weird thing to think of. When I was in college, I met this good-looking Yank and five looooooong, long-distance years later, we were married and settled in New Jersey. That was twenty-eight years ago. I can’t believe that number either. Now we have two late-teenaged girls and two very furry dogs.
When did you first start writing and when did you finish your first book?
I’ve always written; which is to say, I always loved language and word choice and my family was huge into reading and writing. But you could say I wrote my first novel when I was 14. It was bloody awful. But the germs of the characters were there, and although I ignored my writing throughout my thirties (I thought I wanted to be a teacher!) I realized eventually that I needed to do what I’d always wanted to do. And those characters were still talking to me. Many, many rewrites and edits later, Breath was released in 2018. Only thirty-odd years later!
What other genres of novel would you love to write?
Ooh, this is a good one. I really respect people who write mysteries. I would love to be able to weave a complicated story with clues, red herrings, shifty characters and a big reveal no one saw coming. Maybe one day when I’m not wrangling school and dog schedules I’ll be able to focus on it. The other genre I’d love to write would be historical. But I know me: I’d absolutely bury myself in research and no one would see me for five years. Who knows if the book would ever be released?!
Can you tell us about any other upcoming books, series, or writing plans?
I have two more books to finish for the Fieldings series, for Thea’s sisters Sam and Megan. Then I have a new series I’d love to publish about British nannies in New York City. More romances of course. And I have a women’s fiction novel in the works too. I’ll keep writing as long as I have stories to tell!
Do you have any advice to give to aspiring writers?
Don’t publish too soon! I know that’s not always what people want to hear. We all love seeing our name on a book. But you do yourself and other authors a disservice if you rush to print a book that isn’t properly edited and proofread. Think of your book as the business it is: businesses need investment, not just of your time, but of money. Spend the money on an editor AND a proofreader, and even a good cover artist, and you’ll produce a much better product that will leave people coming back for more.
And find your community. I can’t say enough about New Jersey Romance Writers and how much everyone there has helped me negotiate this nutty world of publishing we’re all in. You can find writers’ groups all over the place and the best part is that once you’re published, you get to give back to the groups who supported you!
Thank you so much for having me!

BOOK 2 in the Fieldings Series
by Kimberley Ash
Thea Fielding just wants to fulfil her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher, and to be a better single mom to her two boys. After his wife and coworker cheated on him, Liam McConnell had to leave the teaching job he loved, and is only just clawing back his career.
Neither want to get involved again after their disastrous marriages, but from the moment they meet at an evening class, they can’t take their eyes off each other. To make things worse, Thea begins hosting a study group and the other members invite Liam.
To cover their growing attraction, Thea and Liam are snarky to each other as often as possible. How long can they resist what everyone knows will happen? Can they get past their own histories to build a life together? And what happens when Thea’s ex shows up to take back his family?

Kimberley – I’m late in reading your post. Love the theme of this book. Here’s to many sales and getting the next books out, including a mystery someday!
