    1. So many different elements go into writing a novel. Naming characters is just one of them, but very important.

  4. I agree–they can be used very effectively. Nicknames can reflect characteristics, no matter what time period. Even in the Middle Ages (I write medievals) warriors often were given nicknames to mirror their natures or their abilities. This quartet sounds fascinating, Zara~ Best of luck with Mic’s story.

      Nicknames are used all around the world so I am not surprised they were used in the past too.. In Greece, all first sons are named after their paternal grandfather, and all 2nd sons are named after their maternal grandfather (same for girls). Nicknames are a way to identify one cousin from another.

  5. I love the use of nicknames in your quartet. You’re right, it lends authenticity. One of my best friends in college was a street artist and he got really mad when I didn’t call him by his nickname when we were hanging out on the streets.
